I'm Gena Ross. I'm a native of Minneapolis, MN and have been living in Missouri for twelve years: ten of those years have been in Platte City, Missouri. I have three children who have all graduated from Platte County High School.
I have an earned PhD in Public Policy & Administration and Master's degree in Public Administration both obtained from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN. In addition, I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from American Intercontinental University, Schaumburg, IL and an Associates in Urban Ministries from North Central University in Minneapolis, MN.
I am an Assistant Professor of Business and also teach American Government for the Political Science Division at a Kansas City Kansas Community College.
I’m a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the National Society of Success and Leadership (NSLS) the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, Pi Alpha Alpha (PAA).
I serve on two Diversity and Equity & Inclusion Committees, I'm on a Student Grievance Committee. In the past I have worked with programs in Kansas City, MO where I implemented and sustained a before and after school program for 68 students. I have also provided community outreach with the “Just for Me Free Clothing Closet and are involved in other community service. In 2015, I worked on a contract as a Constituent Service Representative with former US Senator for Missouri, Senator Claire McCaskill, US. I'm a former School Board candidate for the Platte County RIII School District in their 2019 election, placing third out of two available seats.
I am very passionate about helping others, advocating for them, and being the voice for those who feel voiceless or hopeless. I believe in unity. I believe we are better together. I am being the change that I want to see and the only way that I fail is by not trying. I heard a wise man once say that "My win doesn't have to look like your win” It doesn't matter who crosses the victory line first when we are working together for a common cause. I am a transformational leader; therefore, I would love to empower you to stand up, stand out, and don't be silent anymore. Your voice and your vote, matters.
It would be an honor and privilege to serve and represent you in Congressional District 6.
